In the coming year, artificial intelligence will make its presence felt in digital marketing like never before. It will scour data to predict consumer trends, vesting marketers with the ability to create campaigns anticipating customer desires. And it will bring an unprecedented level of AI-powered chatbot sophistication, vastly enhancing customer support.

Brands understand nurturing trust among their customers and prospects remains paramount. In order to gain and keep that trust, they will increasingly find it necessary to embrace “transparent data handling” this coming year. This term refers to brands being honest and sincere about their collection, utilization, storage and sharing of data. Brands will be expected to collect only data needed for specific purposes, control who can access and tweak data, maintain clear and readily understandable privacy policies about data collection and use and be accountable for any data mishandling.

- Purpose-driven. Customers will expect brands to undertake sustainable practices and use data to support diversity, equity and inclusion DEI in their marketing messages. Doing so will help avoid bias and ensure fairness and equity in use of data analytics.
- AR, VR Gain Ground. With customers increasingly seeking immersive experiences, augmented reality will allow products to be tried on or visualized in customers’ homes, and virtual reality will enable experience-backed purchase decisions.
